Pumarosa announce debut album – ‘The Witch’

Pumarosa have today unveiled new single ‘Dragonfly’, alongside confirming details of their much-anticipated debut album. ‘The Witch’ will see a release on May 19th via Fiction Records, whilst the band have also lined up a spring UK and European headline tour featuring their biggest London show to date at Oval Space on April 20th.  Further live plans and festivals will follow, with the likes of The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and Secret Garden Party already confirmed.

‘Dragonfly’ is described by the band as a piece of “alien pop simplicity”, matching the London five-piece’s immersive cinematic instrumentation to a haunting vocal from lead singer and visual artist Isabel Muñoz-Newsome. Discussing ‘Dragonfly’, the band say: “we are so used to protecting ourselves from each other that when the time comes to be open, sometimes we can’t do it. Dragonfly is about shedding this armour.”

Announced today, Pumarosa’s stunning debut album – ‘The Witch’ – soundtracks a vivid journey thus far: from the shared Tottenham warehouse the band formed in to the derelict Italian cinema in which they honed their sound, and then the South London studio of eccentric producer Dan Carey (Kate Tempest, Bat For Lashes, TOY). Having sold-out a series of headline shows starting at a half-knocked down house in Peckham to the ICA and then the Village Underground – alongside touring with artists like Kate Tempest, Glass Animals, Everything Everything and wowing crowds at festivals like Latitude and secret midnight sets at Glastonbury – Pumarosa have emerged as one of the UK’s most undeniably powerful live bands.

As suggested by the album’s introductory tracks – ‘Priestess’, ‘Cecile’, ‘Honey’ – ‘The Witch’ digs deeper into Pumarosa’s varied but instantly-identifiable sound. United under their “Industrial Spiritual” ethos, few other bands combine art, politics and progressive thought like this. Yet everything goes hand-in-hand with Pumarosa, and in 2017 they’re taking you with them further still.
