Mica Levi’s soundtrack for ‘Jackie’ has been nominated for a BAFTA

As the award nominations begin to come in, we are delighted to see that Mica Levi, who also performs as Micachu and the Shapes, has been nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Original Music category for her score to the biopic Jackie, a film that explores the life of Jackie Kennedy in the days after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Jackie director Pablo Larraín, adored Mica’s score for the 2013 film Under The Skin, which like the Jackie soundtrack, sounds haunting and warped from the use of glissandos in the composition.

“I’ve just always been interested in those glisses, it’s something that happens if you slow [your playing] down, you get this glooping and distortion and morphing of [sound]. It’s something I really like the sound of, but it can be quite expressive as well.” (Mica talking to FACT magazine about her work).

Mica Levi is becoming one of the most original and inventive composers working in film today.

Jackie is released in the UK on January 20th and is already available in the US.

The BAFTA’s take place on February 12th.
